Grammy nominee Patti Austin performed at the C200 gala
Saturday, October 13, 2007 — Karen is a guest in Chicago at the 25th Anniversary Annual Conference Gala Dinner of The Committee of 200, held at the Art Institute, where she is recognized for assisting founder Susan Davis (the evening's keynote speaker) in 1981-82 with the founding research on women business owners running multi-million-dollar companies. Guests at the gala included Susan Davis and her daughters Blake and Julia Davis, attorney Misty Gruber, retired executive recruiter Millington McCoy, real estate exec Judy Thornber, and Estee Lauder's Jeanette Wagner. Web: www.c200.org
"In 1982, a handful of the most powerful women in business gathered in Los
Angeles. Their immediate goal was to raise funds for The National Association
for Women Business Owners, a network dedicated to women entrepreneurs. Beyond
raising $200,000 for NAWBO, the small group of women ultimately conceived a
larger agenda: to create a national network that would capitalize on the
experience of women at the top echelons of business. Together they created The Committee of 200. In the beginning, it was a small,
private organization intent on keeping a low profile. In fact, Business Week once called The Committee of 200 'the most high-powered organization you’ve never heard of.' The roster of founding members, however, reads like a veritable 'Who’s Who' of some of the most celebrated names in business. Katharine Graham of The Washington Post, Sherry Lansing of 20th Century Fox, Patricia Cloherty of Patricof & Co. Ventures, Inc., Christie Hefner of Playboy Enterprises, and Muriel Siebert, of Muriel Siebert & Co."
