Dear Friends,
We're very grateful to be able to kick off 2012 — not to mention The Year of the Dragon (4710!) — on such a high note.
Our latest labor of love THE FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO WINE (Little, Brown; Nov. '11) was cited as "The Best Wine Book of 2011" based on Eat Your Books' compilation of 195 year-end "Best Of" lists.
We were also thrilled to see it named the #1 wine book of the year by writers such as Jenn Garbee of LA Weekly, Bill Ward of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Tom Wark of Fermentation — not to mention one of the best food books of the year by writers such as Anthony Gismondi & Kasey Wilson of CFUN Radio (who deemed it their favorite book of the year after Modernist Cuisine), Amanda Gold of the San Francisco Chronicle, Genevieve Ko of Good Housekeeping, and Carey Polis of the Huffington Post. Foodista.com awarded our book one of its 16 inaugural cookbook awards for 2011.
THE FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO WINE is also a brand-new 2011 Gourmand Wine Book Award winner for the United States and one of four books shortlisted for the 2011 Gourmand World Cookbook Award for the best book on Matching Food and Drink which will be awarded the evening of March 6th at the famed Folies-Bergère in Paris. We're also looking forward to speaking about THE FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO WINE at the Paris Cookbook Fair the afternoon of March 8th.
In the meantime, you can hear us a bit closer to home, as we'll be guests on the James Beard Award-winning "Leonard Lopate Show" on WNYC, the largest public radio station in the U.S., the afternoon of Monday, February 13th. And on the evening of Thursday, March 1st, we'll be speaking about THE FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO WINE at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.

It's been an overwhelmingly busy past few months for us as we've strived to get the word out about our new book's existence from coast to coast — from Boston to Vancouver, and parts in between.
We are grateful to every single one of you who have helped us with this by hosting us for events in your neck of the woods, by posting reviews on your blogs and on Amazon.com and BN.com, by sharing word of THE FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO WINE via Facebook, Twitter and good old-fashioned word of mouth, and by being part of our latest adventures. Thank you!

We're looking for a few good men (and women) bloggers who want to learn more about wine. We'll be hosting some one-on-one and group telephone coaching sessions for food bloggers who sincerely want to learn more about wine and share their knowledge with their readers — and we plan to write about their individual journeys to wine mastery. Pre-requisites: None — you don't need any previous wine training whatsoever, although you should be very interested in learning more. Benefits: Huge (including wine education, wine books, and yes, a complimentary bottle or more of wine). Cost: FREE. How to apply: Send an email to us at dornenburgpage@gmail.com telling us about yourself and your blog and why you'd like to learn more about wine in 2012.

Last night our friend and fellow author Corinne Trang (who has been referred to as "the Julia Child of Chinese cooking in America," and appeared on the "Today" show this morning) wrote on her Facebook page, "The Year of the Dragon is traditionally associated with new beginnings and good fortune. It is a year for great deeds, innovative ideas, and big projects. Dragon loves to give happiness and success to all good, honest, and creative people."
We'll have more exciting news to share about new beginnings and big projects in the weeks to come, but in the meantime, we wish you all a very Happy Chinese New Year — one filled with new beginnings, good fortune, and much happiness and success!
Delicious wishes,
Karen and Andrew

"Top Wine Books: Best Wine Books Out in 2011: THE FOOD LOVER'S GUIDE TO WINE by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg (Little, Brown & Co., $35), was the best addition to the wine-with-food literature out in 2011. Open this up: For a super-comprehensive gathering of advice, in the authors' fashion of utilizing many experts' voices, of what wines best pair up with many different foods; buckets of helpful sidebars, lists, timelines and snippets, including wine best buys. Shelve it because: Literally, shelve it. You will want to keep this — in the kitchen, not the study — as a stellar reference for your food and wine marriages."
—Bill St. John, Chicago Tribune (December 7, 2011)
